Welcome to Class 5 - January 2018 Update

Happy new year to everybody! Returning after Christmas is never easy but the children have come back with a spring in their step and are ready to learn. We have already packed in a lot of learning so far this half term, with our fractions topic in maths getting off to a flying start with the children simplifying and finding equivalent fractions and then learning how to order them on a number line. We've also looked a letter 'from' the new Secretary of State for Education, Damian Hinds which explains that he thinks that Chinese should be taught in every primary school - no exceptions! The children enjoyed debating why this was a good idea or not, and will use their ideas to construct a formal letter back to Rt Hon Damian Hinds MP, expressing their views!

Our topic in Class 5 this term is For All The Tea in China. The children will be exploring the Shang Dynasty, as well as looking at the geography of ancient China compared with modern China. They have already enjoyed formulating questions which will help them find out more about the topic, and have found out which different sources of evidence are most reliable and will help them form accurate conclusions about the past.

There is lots more learning to be done, and fun to be had in the Spring term with our trip to Robinwood on the horizon. The children are looking forward to it (as are the staff!) and we will be sure to post lots of photos of our time there when we get back.
