Hoylandswaine Primary School

Class 5

On this page you can find out about the curriculum offer for Class 5.

In addition to the work taught in class, and the information below, the resources created to support home learning can be found here -

https://www.hcacademytrust.education/year-5-home-learning/

https://www.hcacademytrust.education/year-6-home-learning/

These can be used at home if you want to do any additional work to help your child.

For P.E there is also additional time over the week so that children meet the 2 hrs expectations. This is in the form of structured and timetables  activities on the Muga and access to the Trim Trail. We are also looking to launch the daily mile in the next half term.

Accelerated Learning Cycle

The Accelerated learning cycle moves away from a teacher dominated ‘traditional lesson’ that centres around a whole class input and large amounts of time for children to complete independent differentiated tasks and instead, promotes an active, engaging environment following a five-part structure.

Through an active and engaging environment to support and challenge all learners the Accelerated Learning Cycle connects to and builds upon prior knowledge. The cycle encourages children to demonstrate their understanding in a variety of ways and consolidate what they have learnt.

Successful implementation of accelerated learning requires everyone to know where they are going and why. It provides a framework in which pupils do engage in learning where pupils are given responsibility for their own learning through opportunities to work independently, in pairs and groups which is very collaborative and active, helping children to know and remember more.

The 5-part lesson consists of; connection, activation, activity, demonstration and consolidation. Each part ensures learning is child led and progressing throughout the lesson.

The use of clear learning objectives and success criteria ensures pupils to understand their learning and become self-regulated learners who aspire to achieve to their full potential. The use of Achieve, Challenge and Aspire success criteria allows children to assess their learning independently.

Trackers.

In addition to our summative assessments (test papers) we also use these trackers to assess what level children are working and and inform our next steps. We have added these for all year groups so you can see the progression between year groups. In order for an objective to be highlighted this needs to be firmly understood and evidenced consistently in their work.
